On 2nd July, 2015, WAM participated in an in country meeting in preparation for the third international conference on Financing for Development which will be held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia from 13th to 15th July, 2015. The meeting was organised by Council for Non governmental Organisations (CONGOMA) of which WAM is a member of.
The conference is an effort by the international community to promote international development and to advance issues of post 2015 agenda on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). WAM's contribution was on the health agenda.
Malawi as a country has made a huge effort on trying to attain the Millennium Development Goals through its domesticated Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS), however it is still doing poorly on its health indicators, with little hope of meeting its target by end of the year, 2015. These critical health goals include:
Goal 4, Reduce child mortality
Goal 5, Improve maternal health
Goal 6, Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
WAM is working tirelessly to complement government efforts to improve the health situation in Malawi. The key outcome of the meeting was to come up with policy issues that the Minister of Finance and other CSOs that are attending the conference, should present to the international community.
Financing SDGs will be a critical area that will be looked into during the conference, which complements WAM's effort to promote health in Malawi.
