FM is an 8-month old infant who had been brought into KCH by his mother because of cough, fever, and breathing difficulties. FM was diagnosed with severe pneumonia by pediatric staff and was given IV antibiotics. The antibiotics were not sufficient to improve his breathing and hypoxemia, and he was placed on a Breath of Life oxygen concentrator. Over the past two days, his condition has steadily improved.
Although FM's mother was initially reluctant for her child to be placed on oxygen (a commonly-held fear in Malawi), she now knows that oxygen saved her son's life. FM is now stable and recovering. His mother thanks the Breath of Life donors, hoping that "they should continue their kindness so that the lives of underprivileged people can be saved."
