BM is a 2 day old boy that was born with a serious pneumonia. When we first reviewed him he was already on a Breath of Life oxygen concentrator, but he clearly needed more respiratory support. Because the Breath of Life concentrator was functioning properly, we were able to use a technique called "bubble CPAP" to provide increased pressure to BM's lungs. The increased pressure, along with the oxygen, allowed BM to stabilize and improved immediately. After 1 day of bubble CPAP, we were able to reduce the respiratory support to only the oxygen provided by the BOL concentrator. BM is pictured here (right) with his mother after successfully being weaned off of the bubble CPAP. He is now happily feeding and growing and has been discharged from the hospital.
